A new global survey by QuickTapSurvey shows that the majority of respondents believe that Iceland will win Euro 2016.
Surprised? Don’t be.
The underdog team has shocked football fans many out of their view that only large European countries have a shot at taking home the trophy. With the expansion of 24 teams participating this year, some believe this is the start of a more level playing field at the UEFA tournament.
The survey gathered responses from more than 500 adults in Europe, U.S. and Canada. Check out the survey in action below:
Thirty-nine percent of survey respondents predict Iceland will win Euro 2016 this year. Germany (25 percent), Spain (21 percent) and France (8 percent) were chosen as the next three popular teams expected to win.
Other interesting survey findings include:
- 71 percent of respondents correctly identified both Spain and Germany as having won the tournament three times in the past.
- Only 48 percent of respondents correctly identified that 24 teams participated this year.
- 88 percent of respondents said they were “excited” by Euro 2016.
