In my daily interactions with customers as part of the Customer Success team, one of the most common questions I hear is “How do I get more survey responses?”
One overarching piece of advice I give is to keep your respondents in mind while creating your survey. You will need to find the right balance between getting all the information you are looking for and keeping your survey concise enough to hold your respondents’ interest and attention until the end. This threshold is going to vary from one event to another. Know your audience and cater to them.
Here are my top tips to boost response rates:
1. Offer a giveaway
If you read my last blog post on my Top 5 Survey Templates, you will already know that giveaways are a great way to engage people and incentivize them to fill out your survey. What you choose to give away is up to you – you can offer small prizes or one big prize – whatever is feasible for you. Everyone loves winning free stuff!
2. Put your mobile devices to work
If you have multiple mobile devices (Apple or Android tablets and/or smartphone) available to collect responses, put them to work! You can use tablet kiosks for people to fill out on their own, but you can also equip your team with smartphones or tablets to intercept attendees for responses as well. This two-pronged approach will surely yield more data and it will give your team a chance to strike up more meaningful conversations with attendees at the event.
3. Collect data in-person and online
While we find that in-person data capture is the best way to collect data while your respondents are present and engaged, it can be hard to talk to everyone. To collect data from attendees that you may have missed, send them an online survey in a post-event email.
